Bono Consulting provided site engineering, permitting, and record drawings for this 4-story apartment building on 2.8 acres in DuPage County, Illinois.
Stormwater detention was originally provided for the subdivision in 1990. However, the current rules for the City of Darien and DuPage County require the project site to store an additional 7,200 cubic feet of volume control. The volume control facility was an infiltration basin with an underdrain that connected to the subdivision storm sewer system. The infiltration basin required the addition of a retaining wall along one side to accommodate the additional volume.
The parking lot has room for 136 vehicles. In addition to the parking lot, the proposed building also included a parking garage below grade with long exposed ramp which needed a lift station to handle 100-year rainfall events.
Overall offsite haul-off of earthwork was reduced by elevating the building finish floor to the maximum level possible and still achieving the 100-year overland overflow path tributary to an existing detention pond. The site access is ADA compliant.
