The Park Ridge Park District employed Bono Consulting to prepare the site engineering plans and provide construction observations for the Centennial Park Aquatic Center. The renovations included removing the existing pools to construct a new aquatic center with a lap pool, wading pool, and leisure pool. They also planned to expand the parking lot, as the existing area was insufficient for the anticipated usage.
The increased impervious area required the construction of two dry bottom detention ponds for stormwater detention. We decided to place one of the ponds at the base of a sledding hill, so the slope of the hill was extended into the bottom of the detention area, thereby making the sledding hill two feet higher! Construction has been completed, and the park is usable all year long for swimming in the summer and sledding in the winter.
