Touhy Marketplace, 3650 Touhy, Skokie, IL – Offsite Improvements
Engineering Design and Construction Oversight widening Touhy Avenue as part of commercial development.
Bono Consulting was retained by Clark Street Development to prepare the engineering plans for the offsite improvements associated with a new Walmart development in Skokie. This required widening of over 1,400 feet of Touhy Avenue, which is a main IDOT east-west arterial highway. Bono Consulting is an IDOT approved design firm for roadways. The storm water design included oversized pipes parallel to the curb to provide storm water detention, so that there was no net increase in runoff to the existing storm sewers due to the roadway widening.
The challenges on this project involved the multiple utility mains that were in the right-of way, immediately adjacent to the new storm sewer work we designed. Utilities included a high-pressure NICOR transmission line, an AT&T telecommunication duct, a Skokie Water main, Qwest fiber optic communication line, and an unmarked sanitary pressure main. Bono Consulting provided resident engineering throughout the sewer work and roadway construction activities.
Prior to the roadway widening, Bono Consulting also provided construction observation and bid assistance during the demolition phase of the work.
